Jane George is a mixed media/textile artist living in Redditch. Having studied constructed textiles in London in the early 90’s, Jane has worked as a freelance designer/teacher whilst also developing her own practice in which texture remains a key passion. Jane continues to exhibit across the country and is working on a number of school based commissions at present in the Midlands area.
‘With the birth of my daughters in 2006/07 I have begun to explore issues of nurture and motherhood. Is this new obsession with protection normal? How can I find joy when buried in mundane routine? Where do our role models come from and how can we hold onto ourselves within the passions we feel for our children?
Whilst exploring the extreme emotions of motherhood and the search for a new identity I also address my fear of an ageing body that must at some time relinquish the possibilities of future babies. The connections I feel to my children begin to resonate with emotion as my work explores visually this state, celebrating the babies I got to meet and mourning the ones I never will.’
